Posting this so that voting #s might help determine developer priority on what to work on in what order? We all want more playable factions!

"New Fraction" (suggested by Esdeath on 2022-05-16), including upvotes (1) and comments (0), was merged into this suggestion.
Would vote "Neutral monsters" but simply adding new factions will somewhat cover it. So it's either this or "new neutrals" I guess.
New races would be great to refresh balance and provide even more re_play_ability and is an obvious and 'easy' way to retain players (: Go for it and good luck!
I'd love to see a Dwarf/Goblin faction where they actually cooperate, since they effectively fill eachothers weaknesses and share the same ecosystem underground. Dwarves and Orcs would have been cool but Harima kind of are Orcs already.

Snake army like snake people from Dark Souls 3
Blood dark knights some more dark medieval
Crab people/Marine empire, but Vikings don’t sound that bad either
Merfolk, mermaids/mermans, krakens :)
a snow focused faction would be great as it would come with snowy lands.
the devs said that more faction will only come after full release anyway. so no matter how many votes this gets it will not be worked on until EA ends.
but we can at least expect neutral monsters.
Crazy Idea : The Community could create a Faction.
Sounds fun if the Devs are up to it.
The Dwarf/Goblin faction would be pretty cool as the split in units could be that dwarves have high armor low speed or attack, gobins have high speed or attack, low defense. So the innate desire to use the pool of units would easily exist.
Viking could be cool in that they could have a normal tree with spearmen, shortbow men *think archer with less range more armor?*, and raider. While having a wyrd tree that includes witches, berserkers, and some monster like a lindwurm or something
2 more factions for ‘launch’ in a years time and then 2 more could be part of DLC / expansion in future. I feel that only 4 factions will get tired quick - and extra few will round things out. I think that’s why homm3 was so good and repeatable (lots of teams). The existing factions are brilliant and ‘familiar yet unique’ and fully appreciate that Lavapotion have created a fantasy world that is their own and not a ripoff. Keep up the good work guys!
I honestly want a demon faction because I want some electric guitar. Although and underground faction could have that as well
Elves, Dark elves...I know that you guys already commented that, but I Like them so much :)
Agreeing with VaultJumper, a demon and/or underground faction would be so cool
I think underground faction (which is cool and provide the lore possibility to add underground layer of map) might have insects motives. Bugs, spiders, scolopendras and all of it with some kind of more human-like race in this faction (maybe based on moles), which tamed all of these creatures
I think one of the factions that could fit perfectly into SoC is some form of a "Tower" faction equivalent from HoMM3. Of course, it would need some touches, but in general, I think it would be a very nice addition.
I think that Dwarves fraction could be easily implemented as a underground race, with some kind of underground Hydras, Mole Riders and more.
Sorry, I have this ENTIRE fraction in my head, with all units, buildings, fraction abilities, stories and heroes. But I don't want to bore you my friends.
To Fle, Gildagriffon
I agree with snake/naga, merfolks, mermaids/mermen, and Kraken guild would be kool to see in the game as a guild combined or added to Rana. It would fit nicely into Rana lore.
If Dark Elves were in the game, they should have some form of blood ritual/sacrifice and add demons and vamp to them. Added them to Barony of Loth would work as well.
In my view, orcs, Goblins, and Trolls would be better with Barya. Vikings and Dwarf with Arleon.
I would love to see a spilt tree with each guild/faction that you could play differently or change up. Like Rana has requirements you need to meet to get access to second-style units like how HOMM V (Heroes of Might and Magic) has, but you only can choose one of those two upgrades.
A mercenary/item store would help speed up the game and added a neutral faction non-playable.
My Underground Dwarves units:
Fraction will be very tough but will have small movement units.
Tier1: Shield wielder – tough
Tier 2: Axeman – easy to kill ( he wears no armour ) but he can attack from distance. He can attack only for a close distance ( he is a shooter) but he can attack twice.
Tier 3: Mole Rider – he is brutall and quite cute in at the same time 😊
Tier 4: Priestess – she can buff and heal other units
Tier 5: Cave wurm – quick but fragile
Tier 6: War Bear – very good armoured
Tier 7: Smith – can attack from distance with his flame hammer
Tier 8: Cave Hydra – Area attack. Regeneration. Very slow but hard to kill.
What do You think? Maybe add some of Your ideas of units? :)
Yeah, hoping this game grows to 10+ factions over the coming years.
My personal first picks would be orcs & inferno, would also be cool to see smth like academy from HOMM
Additional factions would add a great amount of increased variety and longevity to the core game experience. There's a number of fun potential archetypes to pull from or invert that aren't seen in the existing factions. I think these would be best introduced coupled with other features not yet seen such as a more nautical themed faction coming with ships and water navigation on the world map. Or an underground dwelling faction paired with the addition of subterranean areas being added, etc. I'm also sure these new factions can be implemented in a way that still includes a music oriented unit like the existing factions.
Mr Internet Hermit
The two factions I can see as being easily added mechanically & aesthetically are Greek pirates and alchemist/wizard dwarves.
While I don't think giving most units alternate/multiple upgrades would work mechanically nor aesthetically, I could see it working for one or two units specifically. The one I would pitch as having multiple/alternative upgrades would be stone golems for the alchemist/wizard dwarves.
They would be (as I see them):
Iron (balanced upgrade)
Copper (aggressive upgrade)
Obsidian (defensive upgrade)
Crystal (magic/spell upgrade)
Last, but not least, since we didn't include the wyverns & hydras in the swamp faction, could we include them as the beasts of the Greek pirates faction?
So what fractions would be cool for a future expansion? What we can imagine?
1. Orc fraction - with big units but very poor shooting units. They will relay on pure force and want to make hand to hand damage as soon as possible --> MIGHT
2. Demon fraction - witch very unpredictable units and big demons --> UNPREDICTIBLE
3. Chinese/ Japan fraction of Nagas - with mystical creatures related to the myths of the eastern countries --> DEFENSIVE MAGIC ORIENTED
4. Forest Elves - with Ents, druids - very celtic oriented fraction --> TAKE OUR FOES FROM DISTANCE
5. Undergound Dwarves - with fire, stone and... deep Hydras :) --> DEFENCE
6. Dark Elves - with all the dark creatures from Greek Mythology --> DESTRUCTIVE MAGIC ORIENTED
What other possible fractions I missed? :)
Crystal Followers (The faction of the serpents who worship the cosmic crystal) They are the enemies of the Turtles and Frogs.
- Terrain - stone desert strewn with crystals
- the main divisions are snake people
- Chariot auxiliary units
-The theme of the clothing of snakes is antiquity - Greece and Egypt.
Devotees of strength and glory
(humans and dwarves)
- terrain: volcanic scorched earth.
-wild people (humans) barbarians armed with axes and helmets with horns.
- dwarves in full golden armor
-Barbarian wild men riding on hydras
The leitmotif is the world we know from Conan the Barbarian.
Primordial power but also wealth of gold
(the oldest vampire creatures. Vampires but not European but Korean style like this Netflix series about zoombie)
- their enemies are the Barons - corpses who have stolen their knowledge about bringing back the dead.
- the leitmotif is the culture of the Far East and Asia.
-vampires dressed in the long robes of Korean emperors with long two-handed swords.
- magicians riding huge leeches
- An ancient demon that can teleport across the battlefield.
- their area is a dark forest with ruins growing like in Thailand.
My name Nobody and I approve this message.
HI i have idea for elves-demons fraction.
Lore: The elves fled the empire to avoid being enslaved or killed, so they established hidden settlements in inaccessible mountains (or dungeons) and signed a pact with the demons to aid them in their fight.
In the game: Fast elven units that inflict debuffs but with low defense and Few and expensive demons with area damage.
And I have some ideas for units:
Berserker: An elf swift fighter with increasing damage over each hex traveled, have a rage ability which increases damage but we lose control over the unit
Succubus: Elven sorceress throwing fireballs that can take control of an enemy unit
Warlock: Elven black mage that can sacrifice non-demonic friendly units to summon demons.
Fiend: Demon, teleports across the battlefield and attacks every unit around it.
I disagree.. its trash idea. Its an idea for DLC or expansion but not original game. Devs should focus on more important things. This would be only good for dlc. Game is already good as it. Balance is important, testing, optimisations, etc..
I think adding new factions beyond the original four would be better delivered as future DLC content similar to how AoW3 did it via expansions to the original game. Adding more factions over the course of EA is just feature creep and limits improvements elsewhere.
How about some factions like Egyption, Fae, Celtic/Irish/Scottish, Classic Roman/Greek Myths, Arabian(djinn and similar), etc.. Factions + the Random Map Generator feature would make this a great, let me sit down and spin a scenario for myself as a break game. Could definitely see this as a big DLC after the main game gets finished.
we don't need this until the games multiplayer is fixed from crashs
Of course this is the topic about future fractions. Those will be added to a future add-ons probably, but only after the game comes out of early access.
I like the most generic ones, like:
1. Barbarians/ Orcs/ Ogre Kindoms --> whenever it will be, it should represent the pure might fraction. You know, we have lack of shooters, but thanks to congenital aggression, we can quickly come to an opponent and add a terrible damages to him/ her.
2. Warlock/ Dark Elves/ Some kind of Evil Warlord, who wants to take over the world --> this fraction should be quite fragile, but it should depend on evil tricks. Curses/ poisons/ Beholders, etc.
3. Celtic elves/ Wood elves/ Fairy kindom - very fragile but have best shooters in the game. Still very fragile.
4. Dwarves inspired on Vikings on maybe on Mongols (?) (Mongolian dwarvs will be something quite new - very tough but witch a small amount of movement points. And of course Deep Hydra, don't forget about this beautifull thing.
Please, please, no elves, dwarves, etc.
I'd rather rarely explored stuff: leprechauns, occamies, calopsus etc. etc.
Well, I think that will be fun, but it's definitely not the first priority. It's better to expend and polish current gameplay mechanics prior to adding something new
I believe that adding a new faction is also a priority because before the full game is released, 4 factions are not enough for this type of game. The game will be too empty. The minimum amount for me to buy a finished product and encourage my friends is 5 fractions
Yes please, actual factions are ok, but something unique about these kind of games is having a more variety of factions from different fantasy fields.
Game kNight Plays
I don't mind Dwarves, if they are thought anew - like the Arleon which is classic Castle faction mixed with the Fey - Dwarves that are not gunpowder focused (we already have one faction that is) but instead focus on a different aspect.
As long as it is a creative approach, I don't mind classic races to be added.
Ancient Egyptian themed insect-humanoid faction, with Scarabs, Scorpions, and Wasps
I also think, that dwarves can't be like in Warcraft or Warhammer. They can't get gunpowder, becouse we have already that fraction in the game (Barya).
They can be hovewer mixed with underground creatures. One half of the army will be Dwarves ( miners, warriors, blacksmiths, priestess ) and the second, can be creatures like: Mole Rider, Cave Bat, Giant Snail or Hydra from the Deep. That will be more oriented like D&D - Dwarves living under the ground, mining and making pacts with underground creatures.
Tormoz: Ancient Egypt would be cool, but we already have Sand-oriented fraction - Barya
But in other hand, if it may be a BIG PIRAMID town, with mummy-pharaoh, Gigantic Scarabs, Sphinxes, scarabs-swarms, Crocodile-Man it will be great. I love such oriented towns.
But in order to give to those cities the biggest diversity we have, we should think about something unique.
A snow City?
Water Naga City
Please prioritize improving existing factions over adding new ones.
I also think, that existing fractions should gain more diversity before we add a new fractions.
For me, adding a new race is just for the future, after the game will be released ( from early access ).
Someone already mentioned that if we have a sand-focused fraction, it cannot be an Egypt-based one.
I think it would be a nice idea to give the opposing sides of the conflict like black and white. For example, several fractions can be derived from sand.
Sand: Barya & Egyptian snake scorpion people fraction
Forest: Arleon & Elves faction
Dark Forest: Barony of Loth & the Vampires faction
Swamps: Rann Frogs & Troll faction
Additional areas such as:
Sea Water Terrain: Pirates and Sirens faction
Vikings and their creatures
Barbarians and Dwarves faction
+1 I like this underground dwarves id

Will be more then happy to see Boar/Hog-like humanoid barbaric faction.
Cofaxest: I was thinking that if Baria could get alternative last tier unit ( instead of cannons ) it should be Gigantic Man-Boar with great mace. He will similar to Cyclop from Heroes 7.
In Songs of Conquest I like wide range of units, whom we can choose from. It will be great, If we can get this possibility, to chooe between last tier unit.
For example: In baria You can choose those Cannons as a last tier unit ( if you prefere long range combat ) or you can choose this gigantic Man-Boar, if you prefere more hand to hand confrontations.
Whatever faction you will make, please, dont flat them, make good feeling of ther theme. Dont try to do something generic, just take time and give us something unusual with cool music theme and style with monsters.
