Spells should be unlocked overtime
The fact that every spell is unlocked by default makes things overwhelming. I am about 10 hours into this game and I am still overwhelmed by the avalanche of spells I have to read through and manage during battles. A way to mitigate that would be to start with only a few spells and let players unlock more by either visiting shrines on the map, or building specific buildings…making certain spells harder to access would also allow to make some of them more powerful.

PabloIt is not necessary. You unlock them naturally as you get enough unit and enough bonuses from the map.

butttfaceYes I feel the same would be nice progression but also having all of them is freeform is nice. the game give you a good amount of essence already so would sick if its is limited

Mrop2000I think especially the spells that cost 2 kinds of essence have a tendency to overwhelm you, and they are also the ones that might make more sense to have as unlocks as you build your army for a certain mix of spells.

HoolioIn my mind they already do, in that tier 2/3 spells require high rank skills to get. I kind of enjoy the spell system as it stands tbh.

Shoes McLampI also enjoy the spell system as it is. Some nice additions might be to add 3-essence combos, or maybe even some race specific spells.

VanLaserI disagree with the notion that there are too many spells at the moment. Since in the beginning of the game you only have access to a very limited amount of essence, you have access to very few spells. Thus, you can quickly learn about spells while playing.
I agree with adding spells that can be unlocked, however. As the wielder gains levels in various schools of magic, it would add further satisfaction to unlock further spells (in addition to higher tiers of starting spells) -

vanHooijdonkI think it's ok to hide some high-tire 2-essence spells, and add 3- or even 4-essence spells, also hidden. And then unlock them with skill-leveling, or buildings, maybe even by carrying some artefacts - options are numerous.

MinuroI agree. Heroes with a lot of mana unlock a lot of spells very fast. Unlocking them slowly can give you more opportunities to quietly read what they do without the overwhelming feeling that there are dozens of spells availables.

Moderator AdminWe think the progression comes natural as you'll have to utilize different Essence/troops to access different spells. So, early game you'll have fewer spells and late game you will have acccess to more.
