Display wielders during battles
Display wielders behind the units on the battlefield, add spellcasting animations to them and let em say their own quotes just like units do when certain things happen.

EclypsThat's exactly what I would suggest too. It would make the battles even more fun and enjoable! That has my vote!

Pierre le massonKeep in mind that models on the campaign map have a lower amount of pixels than units on the battle map, so it would look weird to have low pixels wielders alongside higher quality units, to make sure that it looks good and consistent you would have to make a new model for each Wielders, I think that time and effort would be better used elsewhere.

I'm afraid I disagree with your statement, HOMM had done this without any issues, and SOC can do the same as them with a Generic character look for each guild/clan without adding too much work to the game. Displaying wielders during battle is not on my top list for this game but would look kool to have down the line. -

MezGreat idea! This would add a lot more character and sense of immersion of the gameplay.

JosI agree. It would be a little but cool addition to the game.

Clean&ClearTo Eric
This is not the same, HoMaM uses generic models on the adventure map so it can use generic models on the battlefield as well. SoC has unique sprites on the adventure map so it would need the same unique sprites in battle as well, otherwise it would feel disconnected.
It would be a nice cool addition, but quite a lot of work, so I guess at least for now the resources would be better spent elsewhere. -

ManPalisadeIsStrongHell yeah. That is exactly what I want to see during the battle

Moderator AdminWhile we agree this would look very cool it would mean A LOT of graphic work that we think is much better invested into more factions, more neutral units and more diverse biomes. So, for that reason this is not something we are considering for development.

PiperDisappointing. Going through the trouble of having unique wielder models, but theyβre not gonna be on the battlefield. :/

MattDenied?
Big Sad -

MattThough I get it, it's better to put resources int new factions, neutral units.

Clean&ClearI am actually glad this gets denied, I am looking forward to see more factions and units and environments instead. This will be a cool feature for Songs of Conquest 2;)

McDudaWhile this would look very cool indeed, the purpose of the hero (wielder) in modern TBS is not just to stand there, casting spells. While out of mana (usually in the first round or so and especially at low levels), they can also actively engage on the battlefield, performing ranged, melee or magic attacks based on the wielder's model. Indeed, this will require quite some work, like adding the wielder to the Action Bar, with his/her initiative being determined by his/her movement points, and the damage dealt determined by a combined offensive power from artifacts and skills.
In my opinion, this feature shouldn't have been denied right of the bat, but instead kept as something to consider in the future. -

NethyI'm sure this could be a mod idea tbh, even if it's just the character sprite standing somewhere off the field

NethyI don't even need animations. Just the idle model with some occasional jeering/taunts at the end or start of a turn. The banter would be legendary!!
