Neutral monsters
Adding a variety of neutral units not associated with any of the kingdoms, to spice up the neutral mob pool, make it more diverse and unique.

Pierre le massonWhile having neutral Monsters would be cool, I would prefer the dev to focus their effort on making more units or alternative upgrades for each faction.
-

akomore units for each faction would be unlikely.. or maybe as super units (like rana got elder dragons. maybe barya can have their golem. etc)
but the game need more variety. some neutral units (without the need to create upgraded version) would be super cool. especially if you could recruit some of them via special buildings depending on their faction. -

Evard BlackNeutral monsters would definitely be a great addition!

TeeI'm thumbs upping this one HARD. As a player, the lack of neutral monsters is largely not noticed. As a map builder, it's PAINFULLY obvious. Two hostiles. That's it. Two. And only one of which has an upgraded form.
-

SmokWe already have 2 of them. I think it's just matter of time.

bbengerI would like to see neutral units that are able to be recruited by any faction to bring a bit more variety to the unit roasters.
-

Scream Admin@bbenger you could make another suggestion for that, and I'll merge it to this one.

darcyMaybe occupy a different city can unlock a unique unit.
such as the Loth occupy the Arleon city, then can unlock the Dark Knight -

Game kNight PlaysWe need the elementals, air, earth, water, fire as neutrals
Maybe even light, dark as well! -

Game kNight Plays MergedIf more neutral units are to be added to the game, make some (or all) hireable via. different dwellings on the map.
We need the elementals - maybe based off the different essences manifested as physical elementals in the world (Arcane, Order, Destruction etc.)!
It would add a lot more flair to the world as well as increase the number of units available. -

bbenger MergedIn addition to having more neutral monsters as enemies on the map, I would love to see neutral buildings where the players can recruit said neutral monsters for their own armies, providing the possibility for some unexpected unit combinations.

VaultjumperNeutral Units should have upgraded forms to make it more interesting and challenging when facing them. Also neutral units should have dwellings and theirs and faction dwellings out of towns should be able to be upgraded.

Łukasz M.Dragons, Behemoths and all kind of very powerfull creatures. It will be profitable to recruit them on the early stage of the game, because they will not profit from research improving our units. So they must be very tough that it would be profitable to think about them.

GildagriffonDark knights, Mimic, Scarecrow, all kind of elementals, living Armour.

fle MergedMonsters that would guard only the most valuable items or key places on the map. They would also give greater variety in building scenarios.
- Big mammoths
-Hydras
-Giant ravens
-Big red ants in armor
-Golems
- Trolls riding giant moths -

Lukasz M.The more neutral monsters we will have, the less chance that those units can appear in future fractions. And I don't want to limit that.
But I think Dragons ( we can use all the colors of the rainbow to create diffrent types of them ) could be quite good in terms of keeping the biggest treusures far away from heroes :)

akoi would love to have biome themed neutrals.
as wolves and bandit could be tied to arleon,
we could have:
_ giant worms (dune vibe) and sphinx/manticore for barya.
_mushroom folks (living in those mushroom like trees already in the game) and a sort of frog X leech X mosquito swamp beast for rana.
_possessed lump of rocks, dirt and plants (souls of legions dispersing into the land, slowly possessing a part of it and going wild) and venomous snakes for loth. (why not barya? because of yummy rats).
a few pasives/abilities ideas:
bandits => throw their axe. limited range. have cooldown.
wolves => passive to buff nearby wolves. (pack of wolves stronger when together)
giant worms => "teleport itself" by burrowing.
sphinx/manticore => charge bonus, poison.
mushroom folk => explode on death, damaging all nearby troops.
swamp beast => spit leechs on their target, reducing speed, atk and def.
possessed lump of land => magic resist, shield, retaliate.
venomous snakes => poison, quick. -

GlowcatGlimmerweave makes me think we could use giant non-cave spiders. Ideally some kind of Faey since that seems to be its association.
-

Lukasz M.Glowcat: Interesting. But what about Gigantic Cave Spiders? :) Do you see them as a Dwarf Town unit? :)

KSNeutral monsters, if implemented, shouldn't just be random fodder. They should pose unique properties that challenge players in different ways and require them to plan against. Don't want 20 reskins of bandits with slight variation in stats.

Rodrigo MergedHow to differentiate itself from HOMM and make the game a little more difficult, a neutral faction would be great, that has synergy between its troops, that expands and is a possible and very difficult enemy, but that we cannot use it, its troops are not They will never unite and we will never be able to use their buildings because they are in an unintelligible language, and when we capture their cities it will only be possible to transform them.

LorewardenA lot of suggestions here are great, like big worms, ”troll riding giant moths” and those elementals based on essences. That idea stuck with me a bit, it feels fitting.
Personally I would like to avoid anything that reminds of the core units in heroes, simply because I feel the devs have really put some thought into their worldbuilding - I don’t want a Heroes copy, I want SoC (I really like heroes by the way). That’s why ordinary elementals like ”Fire Elementals” feels wrong for me, but essence elementals feels fitting.
The concept of buying neutrals would be a niece addition. -

OwlaKazamI agree with those mentioning recruitable neutrals (at some kind of camp). There could even be unique neutral wielders at these camps that pair with these smaller/neutral factions. These locations (like essence spires) would further add to map objectives in a way that the current faction-specific taverns don't.

nan HooijdonkI see neutrals as a valuable 7essence source: say for Rana I don't have chaos, but I want to: I can hire some mediocre units that give me +2 chaos to balance my cast capabilities. Neutrals never get buffs from my reasearches: no capacity buff, or attack or essence = so it's a real traid-off!

Nam Hg MergedAdd neutral factions, like those in Age of Wonders 3 and Civilization 6. Players can interact with them: befriend, make allies, or wage war against them. Can hire special troops or use their special abilities for a limited amount of time. They can give quest to players and will give gifts upon quest completions.

Łukasz M.I think it would be nice to see a Vampire Lord/ Nosferatu as a neutral unit. We have one of the spells ( I forget its name ) that allows us the teleportation of choosen unit - its temporary changes our one unit into a swarms of bats. This animation could be used to a Vampire Lord easily :) He can move from the battlefield as a swarm of bats. This will give him the ability to avoid all counteracctacks of the enemy units.
I think also, that neutral monsters should be way more powerfull than fraction units, in order to serve a unique purporse - to guard the best artifacts in the game.
This will add a lot of Epicness to the Songs of Conquest. Maybe we can have a better artifacts also. For example: Boots that allow us to walk on the water; Big baloon - nowe we can fly, teleportation stone, etc.
What do you think? :) -

kitty MergedI like this idea! as it stands, it's very unlikely (if at all possible?) to have unusual builds for one faction because interacting with neutral dwellings from other factions get pillaged instead. Neutral units that all factions can access and can provide a distinct utility not available to the faction's usual units is interesting - but should be weaker than the faction unit that does the same thing. For example, what if Arleon had access to a unit with Stealth? Whereas Loth would probably want to skip this unit because their Specter would be better. At the very least, it provides an intriguing way for a faction to have access to essences that they don't usually have.

akoneutrals monsters could serve world building. i made a similar post on the discord so i'll copy paste it here for better visibility:
"whatever neutral monster will be created in the future they should be related to the lore instead of random cool monsters.
what lives inside mushroom trees? mushroom folks!
what create the glimmerwaves? spider ish monster!
what lurks in ancient ruins? the first aurelian undeads champions!
etc" -

Łukasz M.So, if not as a unit in new fraction ( Dwarves ) could Hydra be a neutral creature? Please please please :)
And remember, as they say in the marvel movies: Hail Hydra ;) -
